Stupid Internet Appliances (circa 2000)

Every talks about how "everything" will be connected to the internet.

This is such a stupid fucking idea. Why do people think hooking your microwave to the net is a good idea?

A perfect example is Internet Picture Frames. A picture frame that can change it's pictures is pretty cool. Not $300 bucks cool, but still in theory cool.

What's not so cool is you have to subscribe to the "Service" which is like $50 bucks a year to connect your picture frame to the internet. Why does this need to connect to the net? So it can be a doorstop when their funding runs out? (Bad business model!).

Here's why it is really fucking stupid connecting this to the net. Imagine if these really took off and some cracker got in to their system and everyone all of a sudden had a picture of hairy balls on their mantle! (Actually, that would be pretty funny.) On second thought, they're great! Buy one today!

Seriously though, connecting Fridges and other daily utilities to the Net is just asking for trouble.
